What Makes a Catholic School Catholic?

Spirituality and Faith Formation

Target Audience:  All Staff

Overview
Why should a parent choose a Catholic school over any other of their options?

Why should an applicant apply to come and join the staff of a Catholic School?

Does anything make our community distinctive?

Aims
Participants will explore the following key areas about the nature and challenges for Catholic Schools::
  •  learning how the Church prays;
  • imparting the richness of the Catholic tradition;
  • preparing students to be Christians in the real world of their everyday lives
  1. Liturgy forms the landscape within which the Catholic Community finds a home. Yet it is increasingly a foreign land to our people, young and old. Only when we reclaim a liturgy that has beauty, uses Christian symbols with wisdom and boldness, that explicitly calls us to live justly and uses a language that engages and expresses our deepest desires for communion with God and each other, will it be a home for us and the children in our care.
  2. Some people think Catholic Tradition is a static bloc of doctrines that must be imparted to our young. By exploring just one area of theology, this session will show how responsive, fresh and dynamic the Catholic Tradition actually is. By looking at Mary, the Mother of Jesus we will see how this distinctly Catholic teaching, which these days is either given too much or too little attention, can be reclaimed as sane, inclusive, liberating and Catholic.
  3. The real world of our students is largely on-line. If we are preparing for them to be Christian in that world, then what issues must we assist them to face and what values do we want them bring them to bear there so that they can take the best and leave the rest.
 Duration
This one-day workshop will include interactive exercises, sharing of individual insights, and personal reflection
