Christmas Art Storytelling

Induction, RE and Formation
Target Audience:  Stage 3 Teachers

Overview
Now in its 9th year, the diocesan Christmas Story Art Competition and Exhibition has become a much-loved tradition in the lead up to competing with other students from the Archdiocese of Sydney and the Diocese of Wollongong.

The Christmas Story Art Competition provides an opportunity for students in Stage 3 to create art works and written reflections based on one of several scripture passages that depict the birth of Jesus Christ.

The diocese is providing an opportunity for Stage 3 teachers or staff who will lead the students at their school in the art making process of the Christmas Story Art Competition.

The purpose of day is for staff to gain the confidence and knowledge to be able lead and guide their students to create high quality artworks.

Aims
Participants will take the role of the student as they are led through the art-making and reflective writing process. Participants will:
  • explore a scripture passage
  • discuss resources available to develop their understanding of the scripture
  • draw several sketches about the passage
  • discuss the importance of reference material
  • use reference material to aid in their drawing
  • create an artwork
  • discuss the writing reflection process
  • create a written reflection of their artwork
Duration
This one day opportunity is designed to better prepare Stage 3 teachers to be able lead and guide their students to create high quality artworks.
