Overview
The Directory for Masses with Children states the clear importance of music and faith with children: “Singing must be given great importance in all celebrations, but it is to be especially encouraged in every way for Masses celebrated with children, in view of their special affinity for music.” (DMC 30)
 
While we know the centrality of music in our faith celebrations, music has a great power to enhance children’s learning in Religious Education as well as to lift spirits and build community in the daily prayer life of a school community.

Aims
The key learnings from this presentation will be:
  • The key learning from this presentation will be:
  • A brief history of the Catholic music tradition in recent years and why that is important.
  • To explore a range of resources and methods to enhance the prayer and school life of classrooms and schools
  • An examination of the Directory for Masses with Children and it’s “liberating” statements around Masses with children, particularly with regards to music.
  • To explore a range of resources and methods to enhance the use of music as a key teaching and learning method in Religious Education
