Liturgy 101 - Part 1
A Fresh Look at Catholic Tradition and Practice

Induction, RE and Formation
Target Audience:  Early Career Teachers (All Teachers)

Overview
The liturgical tradition of the Church carries a person’s faith throughout their life. This is why our resources and formation need to be carefully chosen for school communities so that they are theologically, liturgically, musically, and pastorally sound for the Catholic context. In the interest of building pastorally strong communities, we should ensure that we hold much of our tradition in common. It is hoped that every student could leave school with a solid understanding of how liturgy in central to our story, engages with our lives, and connects them in prayer to a life-giving faith, experienced in community.

Aims
With this program participants will explore:
  • A general overview of Catholic liturgy, as relevant to educators in Catholic schools
  • Vatican II and liturgical renewal: unfinished business ... adaption for the times
  • Anchoring our thoughts in a theology of ministry and mission
  • What does “full, active and conscious participation of the people” (CSL, 14) actually look like? (Participation goes deeper than encouraging everyone to join in the singing and the responses)
  • We are a pilgrim people constantly being renewed, and the richness of our liturgical life will renew the Church of the future
Duration
The formation program will include a day of reflections interactive exercises, and small group reflection.
