An Encounter with
Pope Francis:

A Prophet of Hope in an Uncertain World

Formation for Leadership
Target Audience:  Parishioners and all Staff

Overview
Since ascending to the Papacy in 2013, Pope Francis has undoubtedly been one of the most influential figures of the 21st Century. His deep personal and practical faith, combined with his genuine warmth and sense of humour, has touched the hearts and minds of ‘believers’ and ‘non-believers’ the world over.

This spirituality day will provide an opportunity for participants to move beyond the brief media glimpses of a ‘Modern Day Saint’ and to encounter, in some reflective depth, how a simple man, from humble beginnings, has epitomised the messages of Jesus in a troubled world.

In particular, just as was the case with Jesus of Nazareth in the 1st Century, the day will explore, with the assistance of the wisdom of Pope Francis, a number of key, ‘counter-cultural’, moral and social issues that confront Catholic educators in Catholic schools today.

Aims
With this program participants will:
  • Encounter the life and ministry of Pope Francis in a vibrant and personal way;
  • Be exposed to, and reflect upon, the many ‘counter-cultural’ messages of Pope Francis;
  • Be encouraged and comforted by simple, modern-day stories of ‘hope’ that have been inspired by our Christian heritage and the legacy of Pope Francis;
  • Discuss the challenges facing Catholic educators in actively responding to the Pope Francis’ vision for the future in our Catholic schools.
Duration
The program will include a day that combines storytelling, scripture and the use of metaphors to highlight the key themes. Participants are given frequent opportunities for personal reflection and discussion with their peers so as to ascertain the relevance of the input to the unique context of their school community.
