Seven Steps to Mystery, Ministry and Mission

Spirituality and Faith Formation
Target Audience:  Parishioners and all Staff

Overview
Utilising the metaphor of the ‘seven steps’ or courtyards of the ‘Second Jewish Temple’, the presentation endeavours to immerse those involved in Catholic education with a journey of reflection as to the true purpose of a Catholic school that acknowledges all participants, students, staff and families, are at different points along the journey of faith and life.

Through an immersion in seven significant scriptural stories, set within the context of the culture of 1st Century Palestine, this presentation explores how the ‘human’ Jesus gradually grew into a deeper understanding of his connection with his divine Father and his true mission on Earth.

Aims
With this program participants will:
  • Reflect upon how a Catholic school community needs to recognise and respect the diversity of beliefs and attitudes towards the Catholic faith tradition that exists in a contemporary secularised society;
  • Come to a deeper appreciation of the importance of meeting children and parents where ‘they are’ in their journey of faith and to develop practical and life-giving opportunities for draw them gently into an encounter with the Mystery of God;
  • Engage with a number of scriptural narratives that provide insights into how the ministry of Jesus of Nazareth can be modelled in a Catholic school today;
  • Be given the opportunity to reflect deeply upon their own spiritual journey and their personal ministry as members of Catholic faith community
Duration

This one-day formation program combines storytelling, scripture and the use of metaphors to highlight the key themes. Participants are given frequent opportunities for personal reflection and discussion with their peers so as to ascertain the relevance of the input to the unique context of their school community.
